Tonight I saw a post about Owen Wilson on FARK.com. The story in the Daily Mail showed a worse for wear Mr. Wilson returning home. One thing that caught my eye was that he’s holding a book as he exits the car. The book title can’t be read but the price tag easily identifies it as a book purchased at Borders. What could this book be I wondered? Just what is Owen reading these days? Well, since I live only two blocks from a Borders Books I decided to see if I could find out.
The staff was very little help as you might imagine. So, taking advantage of the superior pattern recognition skills of the human brain, I took a long look at the photo and tried to memorize some details. I then walked the aisles looking for a book that matched the profile, I.E. a large soft cover with a possibly three word title, and a light color band at the top of an otherwise black cover. As you might imagine I checked the self-help section first but came up empty.
However, few sections later in History I saw what I thought was a match. I took another look at the photo and everything pretty much matches up. Here’s a photo from my cell phone comparing the book to the photo in the Daily Mail article.

The resolution isn’t that great, and not that I have any specific skill set in photographic analysis, but it looks like a match to me! The book in question is Team of Rivals – The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Casual reading? A serious new film project? Who knows for sure, but if you want to curl up with the same book Owen is reading right now, at least you know what it is.
